Garage Shelves

Getting garage shelving could be the answer to many chaotic, stuffed and unorganized garages. As a bonus, your car can now park in the garage, as intended. Even people who already have their cars in their garage can probably benefit from more storage.
The benefits of ceiling mounted garage shelving are that you can take your shelving as high (and as wide) as you want and still have garage room below. Shelving can hold bins of things like tools, light bulbs, seasonal clothing and shoes and extra linens. Below, you can store bicycles, scooters, push mowers and anything else that is better off left on the ground.
Freestanding garage shelving is an excellent choice because it can be moved around with ease. Fill them up as is, arrange them with bins and hang things on the sides with S-hooks. If you realize you need that area for something else, say a deep freezer, simply roll or slide the unit to a new spot.
Shelving in the garage can be used for many things such as holiday items, camping gear, normal garage detritus, sport equipment and gardening supplies. Why take up valuable house space with holiday decorations when they can have their own spot in the garage? Store decorations in clear bins, hang wreaths on S-hooks and store wrapping paper until it is needed. All the items will be safe and you will always know where they are. (No more looking for those holiday cards bought in last year’s clearance sale.)
Many people store camping gear in a corner of the garage, an outdoor shed, in the attic or underneath the house. None of these options is ideal and most of them make retrieving the gear a hassle. Garage shelving is perfect for bulky or heavy items such as tents, propane camping stoves, camping chairs and sleeping bags. When it comes to packing up for a camping trip there is only one place to look, the camping shelf.
All the normal stuff people tend to keep in their garages can take up a lot of space. Things such as paint cans, recycling containers and tools can now have a home. Bulk grocery items such as canned goods and paper products can also have a specific place to go. Sports equipment like hockey sticks, skateboards and baseball paraphernalia can now be placed in bins, hung on the side or placed directly on the shelf.

If you need to organize all the stuff in your overstuffed garage you should think about installing various components that make up countless garage storage systems. It’s easy to toss your junk in your garage and make plans to clean it up later but that later never comes and soon your garage is a junk room. Having a way to organize that junk will not only open your garage so that it can be used for its intended purpose but it will help you easily find that junk when you need it again.
Garage storage systems are a combination of cabinets and compartments and shelves that attach to the walls of your garage or ones that stand alone and are easily rearranged. The compartments and styles of shelving are also interchangeable and adjustable regardless of the system used. Two basic systems are used in garage storage: garage wall storage systems and the garage overhead storage system.
The wall system optimizes the room to its fullest. It can be set up to line against every wall in your garage and is fully customizable. This allows you to easily store like items together. Things that are seasonal are especially conveniently made easy to store in a garage system like this. Camping gear, Christmas ornaments, pool toys, whatever it may be. Then of course you can sort your tools and gardening equipment. The units either securely fasten to the wall of your garage or will have legs or lockable wheels that they stand on.

So you know that you want to get your garage organized or maybe you have even already started and you have decided that you want to use garage storage shelves to do it. Now you have to decide what kind you want to use. It is important that you ask the right questions so that you are sure to get a solution that works for your garage. What will fit in your garage? What will work best with your style and your space?
Taking measurements is always an important first step. Be sure to measure height, width and depth. And be sure to take the measurements while your cars are in the garage. You want to make sure that your cars will still fit into the garage with whatever shelving system you get. In case you decide to get cabinets with closed doors, measuring how far the doors can swing out on the cabinets is also a good idea. You do not want to be hitting your car whenever you open a cabinet door.
As you take measurements, also think about the style of garage storage shelves that you want. Do you want open shelving? If you are a very visual person or want to know if something is there just by looking, open shelving may be your best bet. This type of shelving makes it easy to see where everything is in your garage.
If you are concerned about how your garage looks and you can easily remember where you put things, closed cabinet type shelving will likely work better for you. A word of warning about closed shelving: You need to have a good memory of where you put things in order for this to work for you or else label the cabinet doors with the contents of what is inside. It can be very frustrating to have to open all of your cabinets in order to find one thing.
